Shiny Mathewkutty, MD, is a board-certified interventional cardiologist at Mercy Medical Center. She received her medical training at the University of Texas – Houston Medical School and UT Southwestern before traveling to New York City. There she received fellowship training in cardiology from the Mount Sinai Clinical Cardiology program and advanced to fellowship training in interventional cardiology at the Mount Sinai Medical Center. Only 4.5 percent of female interventional cardiologists in the United States are women.
Shiny left her private practice in New York to move to Cedar Rapids in 2017. She previously served as chair of the cardiology department as well as chair of the American Heart Association Heart Walk in 2020. Shiny is committed to teaching the next generation of health care professionals and participates in mentorship programs for students at Coe College and high school students interested in learning about medicine. She is also passionate about advocating for advancement of women in leadership positions. She currently serves as the director of the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory at Mercy Medical Center.
