When returning to Iowa with her husband four years ago, Deb Ralston knew she wanted to make a difference in her native state. Ralston currently serves as a family physician for the Peoples Community Health Clinic in Waterloo. Since her return to the area, she has become a lead organizer and volunteer for several community initiatives and programs, including Cedar Rapids RISE (Reintegration Initiative for Safety and Empowerment), a program providing fellowship and resources for individuals recently released from jail or prison. Deb is also an active volunteer through Return-a weekly networking group for those recently released from prison to meet, share challenges and support one another. She is also assisting with Secure Your Future, a micro loan program for financially challenged individuals, assisting with emergency needs that could cause barrier to get to and from work. Ralston has devoted over four years as a volunteer physician for the Community Health Free Clinic, an organization with similar service as the Peoples Community Health Clinic, meeting the health needs of the uninsured or underinsured in the community.
